Members of German club SpVgg Greuther Fürth have voted overwhelmingly to drop the "Greuther" moniker and officially return to their historic club name, SpVgg Fürth e.V.
At an extraordinary general assembly held at the Sportpark Ronhof, 88.3 percent of the 2,103 voting members backed the motion, comfortably clearing the required 75 percent supermajority threshold. The name change and full corporate rebranding will officially take effect ahead of the 27-28 season.
The addition of "Greuther" dates back to 1996, when the financially struggling three-time German champions SpVgg Fürth merged with the football department of TSV Vestenbergsgreuth. While the move secured the club's professional survival, the composite identity remained contentious among supporters. The grassroots initiative "Zurück zur SpVgg Fürth" had campaigned for the restoration of the traditional name since 2018, even raising over €172,000 via fan crowdfunding to help cover the estimated €400,000 to €500,000 rebranding costs.
Alongside the official change in the club statutes, Fürth will permanently anchor the classic round cloverleaf badge as its club-wide emblem. While the professional first team has already featured the traditional green Kleeblatt on a white roundel on their match shirts in recent seasons, the decision unifies all club departments and documents under the historic crest, closing a 30-year chapter and restoring the club's original visual identity.
The Puma Greuther Fürth 26-27 away shirt introduces a modern look for the German club, featuring the official club crest and Puma logo. The design incorporates classic elements tailored for the away matches of the upcoming 2. Bundesliga season.
The launch of the Puma Greuther Fürth 26-27 away kit completes the club's set for the new campaign, following the earlier releases of the home and centenary anniversary kits.
